The brutal killing of Flamingo Primary School pupil, Koketso Mahlakwana (9), has brought together law enforcement agencies, community members and political activists under one umbrella.
Koketso was abducted outside the school on May 16, and his lifeless body was discovered three days later opposite Lenz Public Secondary School in Extension 11B.
On June 3, hundreds of people converged at Flamingo Primary School, to map a way forward. The event was organised by the school in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Community Safety. Under the theme #save me don’t hurt me, speaker after speaker delved deeper about the importance of protecting children from harm.
Addressing the masses, the Chief Director of the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, Thami Mayisela, said, “As parents we need to ensure the safety, well-being, care and protection of children through an integrated multi-disciplinary approach. We must protect children from violence, exploitation, child abuse and neglect”.
