The second half of the cycling season, after the winter break, is characterized by an extremely eventful calendar. It was kicked off by the debut tour from Jefferey’s Bay in the Eastern Cape to Cape Town from August 9 to 13.The racing started on September 10, with the local Rand Water Race for Victory in the Midvaal / Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve area.
Despite the race not having too many climbs, it’s known as the race of “winds” for a reason. Riding into the strong head and cross winds took its toll on many of us.
In the 110km variant of the race, Marnus Potgieter, won in a time of 2:27. Ocular Cycle Club Lenasia’s five quickest times were as follows: K Valla 2:48, H Kana 2:59, I Bagas 3:05, M Mayet 3:07 and MN Bagas and M Patel 3:09.
