The learners and educators at Al Aqsa School, in Lenasia Extension 5, commemorated this ghastly event on Monday, May 15. Learners picket with vibrant messages on Protea Avenue with placards.
The Grade 4 learners sang the South African National Anthem and a recording of the Palestine National Anthem was played. This aspect of the proceedings clearly emphasised the distinct relationship between South African Apartheid and Israeli Apartheid ideologies.
Coinciding with this event was the Dignity Strike SA, marking the current Palestinian prisoners’ hunger strike which started on April 17, and which continues to this day.
